Shilajit is one of the easier supplements in the UK to buy badly. Diluted and adulterated products are a known problem in this category, so before you compare prices, it is worth knowing what separates a genuine resin from a jar of brown filler. This is the checklist we would use ourselves.
1. Ask for the lab report — the actual document
Any serious supplier tests each batch with an independent laboratory and will show you the report itself, not a summary or a badge. Two things to check first: the heavy-metals screening (lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium — the single most important safety test for a substance collected from rock) and the ash content (high inorganic residue can indicate soil or filler rather than pure resin). We publish ours in full on the lab reports page, along with a plain-English guide to the terminology.
2. Know where it comes from
"Himalayan" covers a lot of ground. Ask which range and who collects it. Our resin is collected by our own climbers in the Karakoram range, and we run our own offices, staff and export licences in the source country — so the jar you receive holds the resin our team collected, with no middlemen and no blending.
3. Ask how it was purified
Raw shilajit must be purified before it is safe to take. The quick way is heat processing; the traditional way is water filtration and sun-drying, which takes months. Ours is purified in cold spring water over six months and dried in the sun — never heated. Whichever supplier you choose, they should be able to tell you their method without hesitation.
4. Check the texture story adds up
Genuine resin softens in a warm hand and firms up when cold, and it dissolves fully in warm water without grit or sediment. A product that behaves the same at every temperature, or leaves residue in the glass, deserves questions.
5. Check the seller is accountable in the UK
Buying from a UK-registered company matters if anything goes wrong: your purchase is covered by UK consumer law. Shilajit Global is operated by Omar Guevara Ltd, company number 05183250, registered in England and Wales. Unopened products can be returned within 30 days under our returns policy, and UK delivery is free over £50.
6. Be sceptical of big promises
UK advertising rules do not permit food supplements to claim they treat, prevent or cure anything — so a listing promising specific health outcomes is telling you something about the seller. Judge a shilajit on what can be evidenced: source, process, composition and independent testing.
Where to start
If you are new to shilajit, a small jar is the sensible first purchase. Our Salahuddin range starts at a 10g tester, and the OG1 range includes both resin and liquid drops if you would rather skip the spoon. Every product ships from the UK with its lab reports published. New to shilajit altogether? Start with what shilajit is.
